Moving to a new home can mean a variety of things. You’re unpacking boxes, starting to put things in the place you think you’ll want them and getting another look at everything you packed. It can be overwhelming to unload all of your belongings and now find a place for them. Do you have a box or two purely just for photos? You don’t want to get rid of all those pictures, but sometimes there can be such an abundance that you’re just not sure what to do with all of them. Take some tips from us and learn how to handle all those photos while unpacking in your new home. When you're done, don't forget to have a look at our American Van Lines testimonials if you ever have to move again!
Don’t Procrastinate
Now that you’ve relocated, you’ll probably want to stay a while. Unpack all of your photos! Don’t leave anything “for another time” or tell yourself that you’ll do the rest another day. If you need to, work in increments. Work for an hour or two, then take a break. The key to getting as much done as possible is to handle as many as you can at one time without feeling overwhelmed. Starting out with two boxes of photos in front of you will make you want to quit in no time from the sheer mass of the photos and the thought of organizing them all.
Spread Out
As you unpack, make sure to spread the photos out evenly so that you’re able to see all of them. Do you have a large table you can use? Feel free to leave them out when you take breaks as well.
Having them on display will remind you that you have a project on your hands that needs completing. Not only that, but leaving them out will give you a chance to look at them when you’re on a break and you’ll be able to think more about where you’d like to put them when you’re done.
Where Will They Go?
Look around your new home. Where do you think you’d like to put the pictures? Decide which photos you’ll be hanging, putting in an album or scrapbook or even just storing in a box. For the photos you’ve decided to hang, think about where on the walls you’d like them to go. Think about the areas of your home that you’ll see the most. Many people like to put framed photos near the entrance way of a home, near beds in a bedroom or hanging throughout hallways.
