Before you continue, make sure you read Part Two of Top Cities for Recent College Graduates to Move to for Work if you are looking for the right city to move to after college.
The Big Apple
New York City is the mecca of business and entertainment, especially for the recent graduates looking to live their dreams. The motto for most of the graduates is “Work hard, play hard,” and they put it to action with long hours at the office and partying when the average person would wisely choose to go to bed so they can wake up in the morning. The attitude of yearning for success is almost tangible, and while some feed off the energy, others find it excruciatingly exhausting. The transient hordes and uber-competitive real-estate market contribute to this restless energy, but if you can keep your own goals in sight, “The Concrete Jungle” can be whatever you want it to be. However, being bored is not an option.
Somewhere Near Twilight
The Pacific Northwest has plagued theaters in the past few years, gaining a bad rap as a place where lifeless, granola-eating, sparkling and supermodel-like teenagers with supernatural abilities get rained on a lot. However, those who live in Seattle have compelling evidence that it is a perfect city for recent graduates to move in search for a job. The surrounding area is beautiful, offering great skiing in the Cascade and Olympic Mountains, as well as tons of hiking, mountain biking and mountaineering opportunities. From tech geeks to beer nerds to outdoor dorks, Seattle is a melting pot of many cultures and is home to amazing music.
Bay Area, Go Dumb
Located smack dab in the Bay Area from whence “going dumb” was born, San Francisco has a “best of all worlds” vibe that attracts recent graduates in droves. Whether running along the waterfront or taking a bike ride across the Golden Gate Bridge, San Franciscans enjoy their city and its outskirts throughout the year. Meanwhile, a thriving art scene, diverse population and distinct neighborhoods keep things interesting. The prominence of tech and web companies in town and in nearby Silicon Valley contributes to the youthfulness of the city, but be prepared to fork over a pretty penny to live in Cali's most expensive city for renters.
With all of this in your mind, it is now up to you to choose what you feel would be best for you in your journey of chasing your dreams. Find a comfort level with the place that you pick that allows you to work hard and still have fun to relieve stress. Besides, it is crucial to hold on to your social life.
