How to Pack Your Guitar for Shipping – Part Two

This blog continues where Part One of How to Pack Your Guitar for Shipping left off, brought to you by American Van Lines.

Electric Guitars Extra Information

7. Dismantle any bridge covers that aren't screwed down as well as the whammy bar, wrap and place them in the bag's storage compartment.
8. For guitars with tough whammy bars, make sure the bar is moved over the tremolo unit, and then wrap the arm with newspaper.
9. Move all toggle switches to the down position.
10. Pad crumbled paper in front of, on top of and behind the bridge/tailpiece so that this hardware does not move off post.
11. If your guitar has a floating bridge, make sure all pieces of it are removed, wrapped and bagged, and put inside the case storage compartment. Make sure the tailpiece has padding underneath it, due to the bridge being off, it will be free to bounce around and may scratch or damage the guitar.
12. If you have an elevated pickguard, simply put folded up paper towels underneath it for extra support.

Packing the Guitar Inside the Shipping Box

13. Pad the bottom of the box with a few inches of padding with peanuts or crumbled newspaper.
14. Put the guitar in the box, headstock facing up.
15. Fill the box completely with peanuts or crumbled paper leaving the guitar with no room for movement.
16. Label the box with arrows pointing upwards, and the word “Up.” Be sure to also label the box in black marker with the word “Fragile.”
17. Seal the box shut tightly with many layers of neatly, but sturdily wrapped tape.

Follow these directions, step by step, and you will be playing beautiful, dominant and augmented chords on your guitar in no time. Your guitar will be in one piece, without any scratches, cracks, breaks or bruises. American Van Lines testimonials analysts are here waiting to hear from you. We are wishing you the smoothest and most successful moving project.
